Trade Secrets is the primary fundraiser for Project SAGE, a non-profit domestic violence agency serving Northwest Connecticut and the surrounding communities in New York and Massachusetts.

All services provided by Project SAGE are free and confidential.

We serve anyone, regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, race or ethnicity.

Our services include: 24 hour crisis hotline • Emergency shelter and housing support • Individual counseling and safety planning • Support groups • Criminal and civil legal advocacy • Transportation, resources, and referrals • Training for local professionals and community groups • Violence Prevention Education Program for pre-school through grade 12

Project SAGE supports those who choose to remain in relationships, and those who choose to leave.

We envision a world in which everyone can be themselves, have healthy relationships, and live free of interpersonal, relationship violence.

We create social change to end interpersonal, relationship violence by challenging attitudes and beliefs about power, control, and gender norms and by advocating for victims and survivors.


CLIENT SERVICES

All services are free and confidential

  • Crisis Hotline – 24 hours a day / 7 days a week / 365 days a year, answered by certified domestic violence counselors. Collect calls are accepted and all calls are confidential. Support, safety planning, information and referrals are available.

  • Emergency Shelter – Confidential shelter and safety planning. Available until you can return to your own home safely, relocate to another safe housing option, or transition into a longer-term shelter for planning and support.

  • Individual Support Counseling – Walk-in or by appointment, Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Free and confidential. Safety planning, domestic violence education, and resource referral for adults, teens and children, or concerned family and friends. Advocates available to safety plan and refer re: housing, transportation, financial needs, child care, legal issues, medical needs, employment, mental health or substance recovery concerns.

  • Criminal and Civil Legal Advocacy – Support in navigating the court process in the Torrington GA-18 court. Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Free and confidential. Family Violence Victim Advocate located on-site in court support center to provide advocacy, safety planning, and resource referral for all domestic violence criminal victims or those victims seeking civil court action.

  • Support Groups – Weekly groups for those who are currently with or who have left an abusive partner – contact office for schedule. Free and confidential. Project SAGE works with clients regardless of whether they choose to stay in a relationship or choose to leave.

  • Parenting Support Groups - Support with parenting challenges that arise when co-parenting with a violent partner or ex-partner. Learn how to increase both your own and your children’s skills for healthy relationship connections.

PREVENTION EDUCATION

Project SAGE offers a variety of age-appropriate healthy relationship programming for students from pre-school through high school. All programs can be adapted to meet the needs of your school and student / parent population. All programs are free of charge.

  • Pre-school through 2nd grade – Early childhood education using stories and activities to explore emotion regulation, communication, gender, and conflict management. Focus on teaching younger students the building blocks of healthy relationship skills and respectful communication.

  • Late elementary through 8th grade – Shifting Boundaries curriculum, active bystander skill building, and Healthy Relationship curriculum. Adapted for age-appropriate content. Focus on providing pre-teens with tools to set healthy boundaries, understand social and cultural messages re: gender, body image, and respect, and discuss skills for creating positive peer connections in various relationships.

  • High school – interactive discussions and activities addressing on-line safety, healthy relationships, consent, teen dating violence, gender identity and sexual orientation. Focus on supporting age-appropriate development of healthy boundaries, respect, and relationship skills.

  • Parent and Teacher workshops – Skill-building for supporting healthy relationships in young people and curricula overview.

TECH AND ITEM DONATIONS

DONATE YOUR CELL PHONE, ELECTRONICS OR TECH: Drop off your used cell phones for clients in need. Through the Shelter Alliance program, phones are updated and distributed to shelters throughout the state for victims who need them. We also accept laptops and tablets!

ITEMS NEEDED: Consider donating items that help our clients in need: Phone, Gas, or Grocery cards.

DONATE YOUR CAR Due to our rural setting and lack of public transportation, personal transportation is a critical need for many clients. Make a life-changing difference by donating your car to our Calling All Cars program. A big thanks to Art, of Art’s Automotive Repair, for partnering with Project SAGE in this important program! We accept vehicles in good running condition with titles free of all liens.
